With a virtual Facebook live graduation and a full trip around the sun later, this past weekend, my classmates and I finally were able to celebrate our in-person graduation. Although we received our physical degrees last year, I have been anticipating this weekend since my college released the news that we were indeed having this celebration. To put it into comparison, me waiting for this weekend was the same type of excitement and impatience as tracking an online order, you know it’s coming, but it is simply taking ~forever~. I finally was getting my Elle Woods moment, wearing an adorable white dress under my graduation cap, gown, and cords (ooo she beauty and brains).
My parents and I arrived Friday night and went into downtown for dinner and drinks. After a few Palomas and delicious food, my besties and I headed back to school to hit up our favorite bar/restaurant in our college town. It was so amazing seeing the classmates I have lost touch with this past year; being able to catch up and learn what my peers are up to post grad. The vibes were immaculate and it was the perfect first to start off the weekend. A few F-Bombs later (the RC shot of choice), we headed back to get some z’s before the big day!
Queue the graduation music… Saturday morning arrived and I, along with my classmates, friends and family, took part in celebrating the Class of 2020. The ceremony was great and about two hours later, I finally walked across the stage and received my diploma… well the tube that carries it since we already received diplomas in the mail, LOL. After the ceremony, it was back to back activities with my friends and our families. We took lots of pictures and had lots of drinks to celebrate 😉 It was such a wonderful day and I am so thankful that my college kept their promise and worked to make this day special for my class- thanks Noke!
After another night of partying with my friends and a long car ride home- I can confidently say that I do not bounce back as quickly as I did in college; a 22 year old grandma thank you very much. The weekend was amazing and my heart is so full after seeing all my best friends. Who would have thought that a small Liberal Arts college tucked somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains would become a home away from home and forever have a piece of my heart. As anyone who attended my Alma Mater would say, “Dear Old Roanoke served us well.”- and it truly did <3
