Guess who’s back- back again? Love it or leave it….Fall edition! I did a “Love It or Leave It” post for the Summer trends and I had so much fun working on it, I knew it needed to be done again for the Fall. If you didn’t know, New York Fashion Week happened a week or so ago. Fashion week is a time where you will see the most outrageous, loud, and fun outfits. Although this was for Spring 2022, most guests I saw online were rocking this season’s styles.
I love trying out new trends and pieces, it allows me to get creative and express myself. I mean, my blog isn’t called A Gal’s Best Trend for nothing, right? While I am one to not be afraid of trying new styles, there will always be some that just. aren’t. it. I picked four trends that have blown up online and gave my hot take on each. Will I love it, or leave it? Enjoy!
SATURATED SHADES
Typically the fall season is full of muted neutral tones, with the occasional pop of a subtle warm color. This season, however, will be full of bright pops of saturated shades. Maybe its because last fall all we wore were sweatshirts and leggings, everyone simply had to make this season cheery and fun! Note, we aren’t talking about neons; love them, but been there. We are talking about rich, deep, and bright hues- think Fuschia, Cobalt Blue, & Kelly Green, for example. I have seen this trend done both monochromatically and color-blocked. Some other fashion gurus I love have toned it down and just add one big statement accessory to add that pop of color.
AGBT Hot Take: Love it! I’m always pro pop of color, especially with accessories. I think adding some color for statement this fall keeps things spicy. What I like about this trend is that you can do it so many different ways and for any occasion. One thing to note is that if you are picking a very out there color that may not be suitable for other seasons, I wouldn’t break the bank with it and opt for shopping at places like Zara, Asos, Boohoo, etc.
AGBT Style Tip: Taking everyday pieces that are neutral colored and adding one or two pops of color through either a bright handbag, sweater, or statement piece of jewelry. Don’t be afraid to mix bright colors within one look- have fun with it! Another way you could incorporate colors into your daily style is to get a cute workout set in a fun color. Buying a matching crop top/tee and leggings is an automatic that you don’t need to put effort into styling- also bonus points for comfort!
LOAFERS
Specifically, platform loafers. Ah, brings me back to the 1st grade when all the girls at my Catholic elementary school were forced to wear ugly, clunky, black loafers instead of our ~fab~ saddle shoes. Don’t worry everyone, we got to switch back to those sexy saddle shoes the next year. While I hated those chunky black shoes at the time, new and updated styles for loafers are completely in trend this fall. There are so many online right now too, designer or bargain, they have all been styled so well.
AGBT Hot Take: Surprisingly, I love it. I do think this trend should be proceeded with caution, as there is a fine line between looking like an adorable academia and Stanley from accounting. If paired with the right outfit, this definitely has the potential to be the “it” shoe of the season.
AGBT Style Tip: I think the best way to wear these shoes are to go the more vintage “prepster” style. Think big chunky sweaters, cardigans, and crewnecks. For layering purposes, I’d pair them with a long sleeve mock or turtle neck top. For bottoms, I would do either straight or wide leg light denim or a mini skirt. Again, I really do see a lot of potential with platform loafers and I am excited to go for that vintage prep look. If you aren’t into that, I have seen others be a bit more edgy with it, pairing the black or white pairs with all black up top.
LOGOS
Another huge trend alert are logos, logos, and more logos- especially with designer brands. Basically this trend can be doubled as a marketing tactic to further promote themselves.
AGBT Hot Take: Leave it. Please. The overuse of logos and basically creating patterns out of them feels so tacky to me, especially with designer brands. Like we get it, you shop ~luxury~. Not only is this loud and obnoxious, but these won’t be pieces that you will get much use out of. It will be hard to pair with multiple different pieces in your wardrobe, and for that reason alone, it will probably stay in your closet. My severe dislike for this logo mania, however, is not one size fits all.
AGBT Style Tip: I like a logo, especially if it’s done tastefully, it can elevate or add to a piece. So I’m not saying steer clear of any article of clothing or accessory that has a visible logo on it, because that would be nearly impossible. If you are a fan of a brand, especially designer, pick a piece that you know you will wear time and time again. Since it comes with a bigger price tag, getting what you love and will is timely. It is by far a better investment than buying the Gucci hoodies with logos slapped all over it. Another helpful tip would be to look at the brand overall and see if they have weathered the fashion storms and are considered classic (like Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, for example). Those types of brands will stick around for a very long time so they can be considered investment pieces. Extra brownie points if you find some vintage treasures from them!
TAILORED PIECES
When I think of tailored pieces, in my head I imagine a boss a** beast of a woman completely winning at life. Think Elle Woods, with an edge. Blazers, trousers, dresses; basically anything that is structured could be placed in the tailored look category. Now that this is fully in trend, I am excited to take a stab at styling some outfits with these pieces.
AGBT Hot Take: Love! I think this trend is new and fresh for the season and not overdone at all. Not only are there a ton of neutral pieces online right now, but bright co-ords are also popping up online…. and in my shopping cart 🙂
AGBT Style Tip: I’d be most excited to do a monochromatic look and style this with a wide leg trouser and a more structured top. To dress it down, I’d pair it with a white or graphic tee. Add an oversized blazer to complete the look. You can also pair this trend with the saturated hues and get a statement piece like the pink blazer dress below.
Overall, I’m excited about these new trends and I think everyone can get creative with how to incorporate them into their wardrobes. Always remember, trends will come and go, so if you like it, go for it! As always, thank you for supporting the blog, talk soon! xoxo -Kelly
